Welcome to the ninth edition of Aioli, the newsletter that demystifies AI, making it accessible for your daily life.
From time to time, I like to review my ChatGPT history to see what it has helped me out with, as someone who has just about entirely replaced Google with ChatGPT (or Perplexity, if I need sources). This week, I used ChatGPT to:
-figure out how to unstick a zipper on a sailboat sail cover that hadn’t been unzipped for many years
-generate the CSS code for changing the color of a link in a client’s email newsletter to override the template’s general link color, within seconds
-design multiple landing page versions for a client
-review an itinerary for an upcoming trip to provide recommendations on neighborhoods to stay in and where to eat/what to see
What are you using ChatGPT or other LLMs for? Tell me here so I can share with the class!

Summarize and chat with Youtube Videos Using Gemini
In a Nutshell: Google Gemini has introduced a new "Extensions" capability that enables users to interact with external tools, like YouTube, so that you can chat about videos to get a deeper understanding, or get a quick summary.
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Navigate to the Google Gemini website.
2. Locate the gear icon at the bottom-left corner, choose Extensions, and activate the YouTube extension.
3. Return to the Chat interface and enter in the prompt using the following structure: "@youtube Provide a summary of this video [Youtube URL]"
How You Can Use This: Experiment with requesting Gemini to clarify complex ideas presented in a video, offer practical examples, or devise practice exercises.
Personally, this will save me so much time because I used to have to export the video transcript from a 3rd party site and copy and paste it into ChatGPT to get video summaries. There is so much valuable content on Youtube, but sometimes I don’t have the time to sit and watch a 10 minute long video, so this is a great way to get the key points faster. I can see this being very helpful with home renovation DIY videos and having each step written out carefully, or generating a supplies list for Home Depot based on the video.

Terms associated with AI are becoming more common in academic writing
Recent analysis by Andrew Gray, a librarian at University College London, indicates that research papers published in 2023 are exhibiting a notable increase in the usage of certain terms frequently employed by AI chatbots such as ChatGPT. These terms include words like "intricate," "meticulously," and "commendable."
Gray's findings reveal a significant uptick in the prevalence of these AI-associated words in academic writing from 2022 to 2023. This trend points to a growing reliance on ChatGPT among researchers for assistance in drafting their papers.
I already have a list of words that I intentionally remove from any AI-generated content because I cringe everytime I see anything published with “delve”, “gamechanger”, “dive in”, or other repeat-offender phrases that ChatGPT loves to use. Another reminder to use AI as a thought-starter, and then polish off the content yourself.

Convert any file on ChatGPT
This one’s going to save a lot of headaches. When in doubt, just ask ChatGPT.
For example, convert a PDF into a Word file or an MP4 into a GIF!

(more!) AI Espresso Machine Concepts
Last week, I featured Tina Bobbe’s stunning AI espresso machine concepts that were widely circulated on the internet. The artist posted a new collaboration with La Marzocco yesterday, and I wanted to include it here an excellent example of a brand capitalizing on the AI-augmented art trend:
“I had the pleasure of working with La Marzocco on some conceptual espresso machines. We visually experimented with materials for a sustainable future and designed espresso machine concepts using recycled plastic, recycled concrete, recycled 3D printing filament, recycled aluminium and recycled sheet metal.” - Tina Bobbe (@tinabobbe)
Thanks for reading. Your curiosity fuels this journey.
Until next time!
