OpenAI Rolls Out New Updates for ChatGPT: Memory & Temporary Chats
Gone are the days of having to remind ChatGPT of information that you wish it would remember.
As you interact with ChatGPT, you have the option to ask it to remember specific information or allow it to automatically pick up on relevant details. The more you engage with ChatGPT, the better its memory will become, and you'll gradually notice these improvements over time.
If there's something you'd like ChatGPT to forget, simply inform it. You also have the ability to review and remove specific memories or clear all memories by accessing the settings (Settings > Personalization > Manage Memory). Keep in mind that ChatGPT's memories evolve based on your interactions and are not tied to individual conversations. Deleting a chat does not automatically erase the associated memories; you must delete the memory itself.
For conversations where you don't want to use memory, opt for the temporary chat feature. Temporary chats won't be saved in your history, won't utilize memory, and won't be used to train the AI models. This feature functions similarly to Google Chrome's Incognito Mode.
To access Temporary Chat Mode:
1. Open ChatGPT
2. Click on the model selection option
3. Choose the temporary mode
The benefits of using Temporary Chat Mode include:
- Chat history is not saved
- The model does not utilize memory
- Conversations are not used to train the model
If you prefer that OpenAI doesn't use your chats for model training:
1. Navigate to Settings
2. Select Data controls
3. Disable the "improve model" option
If you don't want OpenAI to remember your previous conversations:
1. Go to Settings
2. Choose Personalization
3. Turn off the "Memory" feature
