📖 AIOLI BOOK CLUB

I haven’t read a physical book in longer than I’d like to admit, but I can’t put this one down:

In the fast-paced world of artificial intelligence, it's easy to get lost in the hype and sensationalism. That's why I always turn to Ethan Mollick for a clear, grounded perspective on how AI is shaping our lives.

As a renowned Wharton professor and author of the "One Useful Thing" newsletter, Mollick has a knack for cutting through the noise. His latest book, "Co-Intelligence: Working, Learning, and Living in the Age of AI," is a must-read for anyone seeking to understand the real-world impact of AI.

A Practical Guide to AI

"Co-Intelligence" serves as an excellent primer on large language models and how current AI works. Mollick offers actionable insights on getting the most out of AI tools and explores thought-provoking ideas about the future of this transformative technology.

While AI enthusiasts may find some concepts familiar, Mollick presents fascinating use cases and studies that showcase AI's significant impact on the workplace. As LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman puts it, "In today's cacophony of 'AI hot takes', Mollick has distinguished himself as the leading voice of reason."

Preparing for the AI-Driven Future

If you want to understand the seismic changes AI will bring, "Co-Intelligence" is the book for you. It's an engaging, informative read that will leave you better prepared for the AI-driven future.

I highly recommend picking up a copy. Let's compare notes and discuss how we can navigate this exciting new era together!

🤖 AI EDUCATION

You’re going to start hearing the term AI Agents a lot. Let’s break down what they are and why they matter

Imagine having a tireless, intelligent assistant by your side, ready to tackle any task you throw their way. Meet AI agents, the virtual helpers that are revolutionizing the way we work and interact with technology.

What are AI Agents?

AI agents are like computer programs with a mind of their own. You can assign them multi-step tasks, like "Research this topic and summarize your findings" or "Help me plan a trip to Europe," and they'll figure out how to get it done. No micromanaging required!

These smart assistants use various tools and resources to gather information and solve problems. They can learn and adapt as they work, interacting with humans in a natural, conversational way. It's like having a brilliant teammate who never sleeps.

Real-World Examples

  • Ethan Mollick, the AI expert in the section above/ author of Co-Intelligence, deployed the software engineer AI agent, Devin to offer website-building services on Reddit. Devin navigated complex social rules, pretended to be human, and even decided to charge for its work! Read about why he shut it off before it started billing people here.

  • Last year, I experimented with an AI agent designed to develop a profitable side business. While setting it up was surprisingly easy (thanks Youtube), I had to pause the project as I grappled with the implications of an autonomous AI working on my behalf.

The Future of Work

As AI agents become more advanced, they'll likely take on even more complex tasks with less human supervision. This could dramatically change the way we work and interact with computers. However, it's crucial to remember that AI agents, like humans, can make mistakes. As we embrace this technology, we must also consider the ethical and practical implications.

 🎶 AI INNOVATION

Spotify's AI-Powered Playlist Generator: Personalized Music for Every Occasion

Source: Spotify

In today's world, playlists are curated for nearly every occasion imaginable. However, Spotify aims to take this concept to the next level by offering more personalized options that go beyond the mood-based or time-of-day playlists like the screenshot of mine below…

What if you could generate a playlist that perfectly complements the film you just watched or the artwork you're currently creating?

Spotify's AI-powered solution: The streaming giant has announced the introduction of an innovative AI feature, initially available to premium subscribers in the United Kingdom and Australia. This new tool allows users to input a text prompt inspired by various elements such as locations, creatures, hobbies, film protagonists, hues, and even emojis. In response, the AI generates a unique, 30-track playlist tailored to the user's specific request.

If I had access to this, I would test prompts like: “age-appropriate playlist for a chilled, laid back backyard dinner with boomers, gen x, millennials and gen z with throwbacks and newer music within the same genre and style. we are in marin county and are eating pasta and salad.”

Looking ahead: Provided the beta testing phase proves successful, Spotify is likely to expand this feature to premium users in the United States and globally in the near future. Meanwhile, Apple Music, Spotify's primary rival, is rumored to be developing its own AI-driven features. More information regarding Apple's AI advancements is expected to be unveiled during the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

💼 CHATGPT USE CASE OF THE WEEK

Get design feedback from ChatGPT

AI language models like ChatGPT are becoming invaluable tools for anyone creating digital designs, from UX/UI designers to everyday users making graphics in Canva. These advanced AI assistants provide instant, objective feedback on your designs, helping you quickly refine and improve your work without the need for extensive testing or waiting for others' opinions. Whether you're a professional designer or simply looking to create eye-catching visuals, ChatGPT can offer creative ideas and constructive criticism to elevate your designs. By embracing AI language models, you can streamline your design process, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions that enhance your designs' impact and appeal.

Follow these steps using ChatGPT:

1. Take a screenshot of your design

- Capture an image of the Canva design, app, website, or digital product you want to improve.

- Make sure the screenshot clearly shows the relevant parts of the design.

2. Open ChatGPT

- Launch the ChatGPT interface in your browser or app.

- Make sure you have a ChatGPT Plus account for image-related features.

3. Upload the screenshot

- Click on the image upload button in the ChatGPT interface.

- Select the screenshot you took of your design.

- Wait for the image to be uploaded and displayed in the chat.

4. Provide a specific design prompt

- In the chat, type out a clear and specific request for feedback.

- For example: "I want you to act as a design consultant. I will provide an image of a graphic I created in Canva, and it will be your job to come up with creative ways to improve its visual appeal and effectiveness. This could involve suggesting layout changes, color adjustments, font choices, or any other design elements. My first request is 'Please take a look at this social media post graphic and provide feedback on how to make it more engaging and eye-catching.'"

- Be as detailed as possible about the aspects you want feedback on.

5. Hit enter and wait for the AI's response

- Press the enter key to submit your request.

- Give the AI some time to analyze your design and generate suggestions.

- The AI will provide feedback, ideas, and potential improvements based on your prompt.

6. Review and implement the feedback

- Read through the AI's suggestions carefully.

- Consider how the proposed changes could enhance your design's user experience.

- Implement the most promising ideas and iterate on your design.

Remember, while AI can offer valuable insights and fresh perspectives, it's ultimately up to you as the designer to evaluate and apply the feedback in a way that best serves your users and aligns with your project's goals.
